Could Your Fishing Gear Always Come Along?

Voisiko kalastusvälineet kulkea aina mukana?

Have you ever been out hiking, traveling, or exploring and come across the perfect fishing spot — only to realize your fishing gear is at home? The lake is calm, the weather is perfect, and you suddenly notice fish moving close to the shore. You feel like casting a lure, but you didn’t come prepared to fish.

This is one of those moments when the size of your fishing gear really starts to matter.

Traditionally, fishing starts with deciding to go fishing. You pack your rod, reel, lures, and everything else you need, then head to a fishing spot. But what if fishing isn’t actually the main purpose of your day?

What if you’re heading out for a hike, a road trip, a SUP adventure, or a holiday, but still want to keep the option of fishing open? In situations like these, carrying a full-size fishing setup may not make much sense. It takes up space in your backpack or suitcase and adds extra weight to carry.

That’s where small and compact fishing gear can make a real difference. You don’t have to plan a separate fishing trip, fishing can simply come along with you.

Hiking and fishing go well together

Fishing and hiking are a natural combination. Both are about spending time outdoors, discovering new places, and exploring your surroundings.

On a hike, you might pass several lakes and rivers. On a road trip, your route might take you alongside beautiful bodies of water. Out on a SUP, you can reach places that aren’t always easy to access from the shore. In all of these situations, fishing could be part of the experience, but carrying traditional fishing gear isn’t always practical.

When your fishing gear is small and lightweight, bringing it along doesn’t require much planning. You can simply pack it in your backpack and head out.

Hiking with small fishing gear

The smaller the gear, the more situations it fits into

The size of your fishing gear matters most when fishing isn’t the main purpose of your trip. If you’re heading out on a week-long fishing trip, saving space might not be your biggest concern. But if you’re going on a day hike or traveling by plane, every extra item starts to matter.

Compact fishing gear can be useful on hikes when you want to keep your backpack light, on road trips when you want to stop at an interesting lake or river, or on SUP and kayaking trips where space for gear is limited. When traveling, a small fishing setup can also be much easier to pack than a full-size one.

The idea is simple: the easier your fishing gear is to bring along, the more opportunities you have to fish.

What if your fishing gear could fit in your pocket?

This was one of the ideas behind MyReel. Instead of designing fishing gear specifically for dedicated fishing trips, we wanted to look at it from a different perspective: what if your fishing gear was small enough to take with you almost anywhere?

MyReel is a compact fishing reel made in Finland, designed to be easy to carry. It’s made for situations where you want to keep your fishing gear as small as possible and have the option to fish without carrying a full-size fishing setup.

MyReel isn’t designed to replace a traditional fishing setup in every situation. If you’re specifically targeting larger fish or need a particular type of fishing gear, a traditional setup may be the right choice. But when compact size, portability, and spontaneity matter most, small fishing gear can be exactly what you need.

Spontaneous fishing is part of the adventure

Perhaps one of the best things about fishing is that you don’t have to plan everything in advance. You might head out for a hike in the morning without a fixed plan and come across a lake that looks interesting. If you notice fish jumping in the water and you have your fishing gear with you, you can stop for a few casts.

A few casts might be all it takes. Maybe you catch a fish, maybe you don’t. If nothing happens, you simply continue on your way. Fishing wasn’t the plan for the whole day, it was just one small part of the adventure.

Less gear can mean more possibilities

The idea behind ultralight fishing isn’t just about making your gear as light as possible. It’s also about freedom. When your fishing gear takes up very little space, you don’t always have to make a separate decision about whether to go fishing. You can simply bring it along and decide when you get there.

This opens up possibilities in places and situations where you might not otherwise fish. A small forest lake, a mountain stream, the shoreline of a cabin, a SUP trip, or a roadside stop on a road trip can all become fishing spots when you have your gear with you.

You never know where you’ll find your next great fishing spot. But you can be ready when you do.

When was the last time you wanted to fish, but didn’t have your gear with you?

The next time you head out for a hike, a trip, or simply spend some time outdoors, try looking at it from a different perspective. Bringing fishing gear with you doesn’t have to mean you’re going on a fishing trip. It can simply be one small piece of gear among everything else you’re carrying.

And if you happen to come across the perfect spot, you’re ready.

What if your fishing gear was small enough to take with you everywhere? We think that’s really the whole idea.
